Costs and Benefits of Being #1 at Incarceration

March 2, 2008 By Mark Draughn 2 Comments

Scott at Simple Justice is always a source of fascinating issues, and recently he wrote about the Pew report on incarceration: The Pew report has been the subject of intense interest around the blawgosphere.  This is the report that tells us that we finally reached a 1 in 100 incarceration rate (and far higher for minorities) and the cost is blowing the … [Read more...] about Costs and Benefits of Being #1 at Incarceration

RAV4 Blogging – Why a Tachometer?

March 1, 2008 By Mark Draughn Leave a Comment

Earlier this evening I realized I didn't know why my RAV4 has a tachometer to show engine RPM. My Camry had one too. I don't think I ever look at it except to tell if the engine is already running. Only then can they start in their hard-earned … [Read more...] about For the Checkpoint Lover in Every Child

Nevertheless, Reason TV has a wonderful excerpt from a recent speech of his that comes very close to capturing how I feel about the immigration issue. … [Read more...] about “It’s unkind, it’s disrespectful.”

RAV4 Blogging – 10 Days Behind the Wheel

February 27, 2008 By Mark Draughn Leave a Comment

We've had the new Toyota RAV4 for about 10 days, and I have a few observations: There's a little digital display in the middle of the dashboard with some numbers on it, but when I first saw it I couldn't figure out where the odometer was. After a moment, I realized that the odometer must be that little "4" all by itself on one row. I guess I'm not used to seeing less than … [Read more...] about RAV4 Blogging – 10 Days Behind the Wheel
